Weston resident Nate Myszka, a former member of Rep. Dave Obey’s staff in Washington, D.C., today announced his candidacy for 86th District Assembly seat currently held by Jerry Petrowski, R-Stettin.

Myszka, 30, announced his bid in an e-mail in which he states he is running to stand up for families and to be a leader for change.

“I will work tirelessly to help ease the increasing economic strain on central Wisconsin families and fight for affordable health care that’s always there, so hard working families have the economic security and peace of mind they deserve,” he wrote. “I will demonstrate the leadership we need to transform the way Madison does business and set aside partisanship to put the priorities of central Wisconsin families first.”

Myszka is a graduate of Marathon High School and earned his bachelor’s degree at the University of Wisconsin-Madison after beginning his collegiate education at UW Marathon County, according to his statement. He served on the Marathon School Board from 1996 through 1999, worked for the village of Weston and as a page for the Wisconsin State Senate while in college, and later worked for Obey, D-Wausau, in Washington and at his Wausau office.

Petrowski, who first was elected to the Assembly in 1998, could not immediately be reached for comment.

The 86th District includes the city of Mosinee, villages of Weston, Edgar, Hatley, Kronenwetter, Marathon and Rothschild and the town of Rib Mountain in Marathon County and parts of Portage and Shawano counties.
